Pregnancy Week 31: it's a girl!

There are 2 appointments at Magee Woman Hospital of UPMC this week:
  1. Tuesday, October 22, another ultrasound to check the development of fibroid that found in my uterus from last ultrasound session. The physician said that there is no increased in size so this can be categorized as normal. But maybe there will be another ultrasound appointment has to be made to make sure the development of the baby. Oh no, I don't feel very comfortable with all the waiting and things that I don't really understand they were trying to find and measure in the monitor, except when they zoom it out (this my own term) in the baby's face. The great news is, although the physician had convinced us that the baby is a girl for the second time, with the following ultrasound, we will able to make sure it again, hahaha. Here are some interesting pictures we got :

  2. Routine Prenatal Visit, at October 24. This is my third prenatal visit to Magee Woman hospital. This time i didn't have to wait for so long like the 2nd visit. Maybe because of i came 30 minutes earlier and right after lunch break (1 pm). I came by myself because Riza had meeting at school. The doctor said that she needed to do another papsmear test because the previous one didn't provide anough sample. I wondered why that thing could be happened, maybe because of the previous doctor is still an ob/gyn intern. For me, it is okay to go with an intern, I got a lot of spare time, as long as their action did not harm me and my baby's health. After pap smear, I got the 2nd flu shot (the first one was done in Adelaide, but the doctor said it would be better if I get one here because of the different season and the content might also be different)
Here is the summary of prenatal check week 31:

Provider (doctor): Ann Peters
Elevated glucose tolerance test 790.22, this is related to diabetes in pregnancy : normal
Blood Pressure (B/P): 110/75 (for adults is generally normal in the range of 90/50 to 120/90 mm Hg)
Height: 5' 4" (1.626 m)
Weight: 138 lb 6.4 oz (62.778kg) previously it was 61.689kg (why there are so many unit measurement standards in USA?).
Body Mass Index: 23.74 (kg/m^2)
Body surface area: 1.67 (m^2)

My weight gain and BMI were considered normal based on these general guidelines for pregnancy weight gain:

Pre-pregnancy weightRecommended weight gain
Underweight (BMI less than 18.5) 28 to 40 pounds (about 13 to 18 kilograms)
Normal weight (BMI 18.5 to 24.9) 25 to 35 pounds (about 11 to 16 kilograms)
Overweight (BMI 25 to 29.9) 15 to 25 pounds (about 7 to 11 kilograms)
Obese (BMI 30 or more) 11 to 20 pounds (about 5 to 9 kilograms)

Next prenatal visit will be in the next 2 weeks (twice a week since third trimester). The doctor said, after 36 weeks, the prenatal check will be once a week.

My own experience in this week 31, I feel so much more healthy, no nausea but still couldn't stand with some smells like baked pizzas or bread from subway restaurant, fried onion, fried chicken. I eat a lot :
- cereal, fruit and milk in the morning (7-8 am)
- bread or nuts or sometimes unhealthy chips at 10-11 am
- vegetable, rice and protein from meat, poultry or fish for lunch (12-1 pm)
- snack at 3 pm
- chocolate milk, juice, or snack again around 5 pm
- dinner with vegetable and rice, or others like pizza, sandwich, sushi around 7-8 pm
- dessert like cake, juice, chocolate, or anything

Before I got pregnant, I was quite hard to put myself in healthy diet food, only fruit for breakfast, no more than 2 small slice of sweet of chocolate cake per day, no chips, vegetable should be provided with a larger portion than starchy food. But, I just can't stand it now. I need a lot of carbohydrate, and based on food pyramid, carbohydrate should be the largest portion of our daily meal.

So, I think I don't have to worry about it now. Things I should reduce it the sweet and sodium from chips.
